The majority of aortic valve replacements for patients referred to Adventist Health Northwest Heart Center are performed with either percutaneous (TAVR) or minimally invasive surgical technique. Elderly patients generally undergo percutaneous replacement (TAVR). Younger patients are offered the proven durability obtained with surgical excision of the failed usually calcified valve followed by replacement with either a tissue or mechanical valve through a small chest incision. Dr. Thomas Molloy’s techniques resulting in superior aortic valve replacement outcomes were recently submitted to the Western Thoracic Surgical Association for publication and presentation to other renowned physicians across the country.
